The organic farmer must protect his crops from pests and the neighboring use of deadly pesticides and chemicals. His/her creativity of balancing natures options with the use of cover crops, composts, bio-diversity and just “hard-work” pays off every time we see the smile and amazement on our customers face. SIERRA SUNSET (Tequila Sunrise)3
There is nothing like a summer, Sierra Valley sunset. Bright and panoramic. an auburn sky that “blasts” the horizon. The small, organic, farmer is winding down on his twelve hour day, coming in from the fields as the sun sets over his/her shoulder. Most people work 9-5. For the organic farmer it’s 5-9! Our hours usually begin at 5am and we turn off the last water at 9 pm.

MY TIE (Organic Mai Tai Mix)4
As a small organic farmer my tie is not a Windsor or a “double” Windsor knot, it’s not a bollo or bow tie and does not need a tie clip. It’s a handkerchief tied around my neck. The handkerchief symbolizes the organic farmers “Sweat”, hard work & diversity. The farmer must be a plumber, a builder, welder, electrician, horticulturist, hydrologist, soil scientist, veterinarian, and a husband and wife. The small farmer has to do it all, he/she cannot afford outside help.

SIERRA BREEZE
Your face is down in the dirt, and you’ve been staring at little weeds all day. That Sierra Valley wind has chapped your lips, your dry feet are cracked and you need to glue the hat to your head to keep it on. Your fingernails are packed with soil from pulling weeds, and your muscles ache from stooping all day. It’s no picnic being an organic farmer. It’s a passion, a lifestyle. In the winter, the wind chill parches your face and you feel like an onion with all the layers of clothes on as you must tend to your animals and winterize your crops.

TOO FEW AND FARGARITA (Organic Margarita Mix) 5
